Leaf Charm

This familiar botanical image has inspired countless ancient and medieval artists. Both the Egyptian goddess Seshat and the Asian legendary Chinese deity Magu (sometimes known as ‘Hemp-Maiden’) are symbols of both wisdom and protection. They are usually depicted carrying hemp leaves in their hands – and with good reason: these leaves have a calming, cleansing and medicinal effect on the human mind.
